A Learning Man's Perspective: August 26, 2022
Saving your creaky knees, dropping a quick recipe and spreading anti-alcohol propaganda.
Hey There!
Here’s your weekly list of ideas from A Learning Man’s Perspective.
I find myself very aware of my gains and losses, this week. It seems that I’ve been very fortunate to have new paths that I’m enjoying exploring. On the other hand, I’ve lost a channel that I thought would help me find financial freedom very quickly. But, I guess that when Fortune opens one door, it’s only reasonable for us to step out from where we are and close the other door on the way out.
As usual, enough about me. I’ve got my list ready. Are you ready?

Climbing Stairs VS Creaky Knees
So, when I’m not thinking about being 30+ and having back pain, I’m thinking about being 30+ and having knee pain.
So let’s talk about fighting up a flight of stairs when your knees are rather creaky.
Knee pain when climbing up and down the stairs usually happens because our hips and ankles are not strong enough to do the work of climbing safely. I made a video showing three ways to strengthen them and your creaky knees.
Here’s a recap:
1. Walk backwards up the stairs.
2. Do step ups - 20-30 reps/leg, make sure you stand tall at the top.
3. Do step downs - same ideas as 2.
If you’re considering using these exercises, try them 2-3 times per week and let me know if it helps!
Recommended Podcast: Alcohol And Your Health
I stopped drinking about 7 years ago. I found that it was much harder for me to do the things I loved to do (like working out and being able to walk straight). I also started smoking a lot more pot, so you could say I switched one habit for the other.
Over the years, I’ve come to believe that alcohol - while being the liquid that brings people together - is probably one of the most dangerous drugs available anywhere. For reference, about five out of every ten violent offenders and four out of ten sexual offenders drink alcohol before committing crimes. Similarly, one out every ever three sexual assault victims are usually under the influence at the time of their assault.
As with all things dangerous, I think everyone would be better off if they had a better understanding of what alcohol does to the body.
And so, meet Dr. Andrew Huberman. The host of the super-popular podcast - The Huberman Lab - just put out a new episode that takes a look at alcohol and what it does to your body. According to him,
Since alcohol is one of the most widely consumed substances, this episode ought to be of relevance to everyone. Indeed, even low-to-moderate alcohol consumption negatively impacts the brain and body in direct ways that people should be aware of.
The goal of this episode is to help people make informed decisions about their alcohol consumption that are in keeping with their mental and physical health goals.
Check the episode out below. I hope you find it meaningful and share the information with someone who needs it.
Ever Tried Overnight Oats?
I recently started creating little videos showing the meals I make for mi familia. Here’s one where I made pancakes, and another where I made meat pies. I seem to like making them, so I recently put up another one with a recipe for overnight oats. Check it out:
Have you ever made overnight oats? If yes, what did you throw in your recipe? If not, you should really try this one out one day. And remember to use flavored yogurt instead of plain yogurt. The difference is magical.
A Crazy Dance Video
I love watching hip hop dance videos on Instagram. I can spend… quite some time simply watching people breakdancing videos on the Stance Elements page. Here’s a dope one featuring Junior Bosila Banya;
And that is it from me this weekend! Apparently, we’re going out to a group hangout at a famous park tomorrow. For some reason, this hangout will not be serving jollof rice. I dunno how Mrs. AF allowed this to happen (huhuhu), but maybe I’ll end up having fun.
You make sure you take care of yourself! Also, if you have some extra range, take care of someone else, okay?
As always, lemme ask you a favor before I go; I’m always looking out for interesting stuff. So if you look through any of the things I share and think of something slightly related that you think I might enjoy/find meaningful, please share it with me in the comments.
How about dat?
Cheers!
